Of course this is really surprising! Apparently it isn't always easy being the big guy. Microsoft is offering other alternative web browsers to its Windows 7 users in Europe, thanks to a ruling by the European Commission after complaint submitted by Opera back in 2007. In the latest Windows Update, Microsoft will prompt IE users using Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 to make a choice of choosing their web browser.

This update will be available to you through Automatic Updates. Even though you have disabled it for some reasons, you can get it from Windows Update website. It won't change anything in your system, except it unpins Internet Explorer from your taskbar and asks your preference of web browser you would like to use.

It is an image and photo manipulation program designed to be used on computers that run on Windows platform. Paint.NET is jointly developed at Washington State University with additional help from Microsoft and it was meant to replace Microsoft Paint, which was included in Windows, but has evolved into a viable alternative to Photoshop.

Since I have been using Adobe Photoshop for a long time, Paint.NET interface is extremely intuitive. Having said that, new users who don't have any experience with any other image editor will get used to all functionality in no time because you can always hover over the tools to learn specific function of individual tool or you can interactively get help from Paint.NET tutorials (forum). In addition to the basic tool (on the left side), it has many amazing features (not as much as Adobe Photoshop of course) like adjustments, corrections, color editing, special effects, artistic effects and the list goes on.

One of the reasons why I (am) will be using it for a very long time is because it is lighter (doesn't hog memory as much as Photoshop) and as a result, loads faster. Paint.NET is really handy especially when it comes to light image/picture editing.

I think Paint.NET is what MS Paint SHOULD HAVE evolved into several years ago.

While I was writing this post, the download progress was almost half of the way and it seemed to barely move, heck it's really a bad idea to download large files during peak hours.

When Microsoft finally upgraded its Windows Media Player to version 11 and people started to complain how unstable the player is because of the DRM issue, I thought it is going be over soon. At least if the problem cannot be sorted out quickly it won't affect its baseline capability such as playing its own format video.

But it seems like it won't happen anytime soon or anytime at all. Last week, I downloaded 3 videos in its native format (WMV). Those 3 videos will not play unless it shows up some errors. So I did some research online and turns out I'm not the only person that having this problem.

Now, I change back to windows media player 10. I learnt that some people are wondering on how to uninstall it, so I post this short post to show you how to do that.

How to uninstall Windows Media Player 11

1. Open your "Add or Remove Programs" and click on the "show updates" at the top of the pop up window.

2. It will list down all the updates each of your program. Scroll down to Windows XP - Software updates and you will notice windows media player 11 amongst other updates.

3. Remove all the updates associated to windows media player 11 and this action will require you to restart your computer.

4. Windows will require you to install the previous media player version (10) and you are done!

So for those who are still using Windows Media Player, you better stick with that version. In fact, there are lot more media players out there such as GOM player, VLC player and many more that performs much better than Windows Media Player. The best thing about most other media players is that they are all free. Don't worry about codecs thingy, you can always find a good collection of codec from the internet such as K-Lite Mega Codec.

Say adios to Windows Media Player.
