I wrote about a confirmed video by a renowned hacker, Pod2g, that make untethered jailbreak on A4 based devices such as iPhone 4 possible. The untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone 4 can be achieved by applying Redsn0w 0.9.10b3. The reason I’m still not writing post about the iPhone Dev team solution is because the Redsn0w 0.9.10b3 is still buggy. In fact, there are outcries from jailbreaker community that the crash issue is not yet solved even with the latest Redsn0w tool.
Let the dusts settle first before I post about a better untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4 (iOS 5.0.1) solution. While waiting for the patch from iPhone Dev team, we already knew that Pod2g has been working out the solution for untethered jailbreak iPhone 4S on iOS 5.0.1 since he made the video. Because he has already delegated finalizing job of the jailbreak to Chronic Dev-team, he has ample time to work on iPhone 4S jailbreak.
Through his Twitter, we learned that Pod2g has made a significant progress which make public release for iPhone 4S jailbreak is possible to be made by next week. Previously, he had several issues that need to be dealt with when working on the jailbreak solution but his Twitter status proved that he managed to get around the issues.

Because iPad 2 is also an A5-based processor, we can expect the jailbreak solution to be applied on iPad 2 too as well. Some may wonder why there is no jailbreak successfully released for iPad 2 since iOS 4.3.3 update. This is due A5 processor has different architecture that render Limera1n bootrom exploit useless. It essentially means that it can’t be jailbroken in the old fashion way through bootrom level exploit.
Rumors are spreading fast that there might be a possible update of iOS 5.0.2 around the corner. It is advisable for you guys not to update to the latest iOS 5.0.2 just yet or otherwise you may not be able to jailbreak your iPhone 4S device at all.
Because the nature of Pod2g solution that doesn’t use bootrom level exploits, we may not see jailbreak tools such as pwnagetool, redsn0w or sn0wbreeze to be used to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1. This is only true if the only exploit to untethered jailbreak iPhone 4S is based on Pod2g solution.
