I've been using Windows Vista for almost a month but I haven't written anything related to Windows Vista yet. There a lot of cool things in Windows Vista and there are lot of new things that I learn along the way, so you can expect more Windows Vista tips in the near future. Let just start with Vista Shutdown Timer. This is a software I've been looking since I switched to Vista.
You may, however, use CMD tips. Please note, the CMD method don't have GUI or graphical user interface; it's plainly command lines in CMD. If you feel daunted with the command lines, Vista Shutdown Timer is the right application to schedule your Windows shutdown process.
Most of the time, the name of this application (Vista Shutdown Timer) can give you the wrong impression. Don't be confused with the name of this tool which suggests it is only meant for Windows Vista. In fact, it can also be used in Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 7.

For those who are not really into CMD, you may use Vista Shutdown Timer. Vista Shutdown Timer is an easy to use sleep-timer for Windows and is a single standalone EXE file (no registry, installation etc needed). The interface is very intuitive and everything is self-explanatory. The function of Vista Shutdown Timer is not limited to schedule Windows shutdown but it also covers logoff, hibernate, standby and restart functions.
Bear in mind though, this little software (184KB in size) also has manual for you to use the CMD command line (click on the top right corner twice to get the manual, so you can learn the command line parameters). The manual is a compact one, so you can learn how to set it through CMD in no time. Currently, version 1.8.5 is still in beta phase. You don't have to visit its official page again to check when the latest version will be out for public download because the update button that's available from the interface allows this application to be updated right away.
