2012 is the year of Dragon or more precisely is a Water Dragon or Black Dragon year. This is derived from the Stem Branch Calendar that consists of Five Elements (Metal, Wood, Water, Earth and Fire). The Stem-Branch is the system that determines the count of the days, months & years. Basically there are 10 stems & 12 branches in the Stem Branch system. Stems are called according to 5-elements and the Yin-Yang whilst branches use animal names.
